Can I bring my shotgun to Scotland for sporting?

I’m planning a trip to Scotland in the near future to visit friends, all of whom shoot trap and skeet. I’d like to bring my own shotgun and equipment for shooting, but cannot seem to find information about traveling to Scotland with it.

Thanks!

If you are allowed in Scotland as a visitor with a gun you are fine. Call the ship or airline for rules which usually means declared, unloaded, hard cased locked in checked luggage.

Way too much trouble……..just borrow one after you get there.

The U.K. is pretty strict on controls.
The British embassy is the place to ask for the ‘Reg.s.
You’d also better contact the airline for check-in procedures,
    and required special packing.

We don’t like guns in the UK.

Well, Scotland is part of the UK. The Scottish Government doesn’t make the law on firearms. That power is reserved to Westminster. I would suggest that although it would be possible to bring a gun here, you would have to possess a license for it. Also, if you plan on doing any hunting whatsoever, the regulations on that are far tighter than the regulations on possession of firearms.

Your best bet would probably be to borrow some of your friends equipment when you get here. It’s probably more hassle than it’s worth. Still go to the website of the UK parliament and you’ll be able to find all the information you need by doing a quick search.
